Who are the National Institute of Medical Herbalists?
"NIMH has operated a register for professional medical herbalists for over 100 years and is the largest body of herbal practitioners in the UK. The organisation has a long and illustrious history. It was first conceived in 1864 and was formally registered as the National Association of Medical Herbalists, becoming the National Institute in 1954, when the Secretary of State approved our level of expertise to use this protected title. Today the Institute has members throughout the United Kingdom and internationally.
Our members have completed degree level qualifications or equivalent. We ensure high standards of education in herbal medicine and work to raise the professional standing of medical herbalists.

We are proud of our heritage, and we are just as excited about our future. Plant based medicines that are tailored to individual needs, in-depth consultations where patients voices are heard, and a focus on treating causes rather than just symptoms mean that our members are playing their part in creating a better, healthier future for everyone."

Can I take Herbal Medicine if I am taking prescription medications?
"Herbs are generally a very safe form of medicine. Herbs and pharmaceutical treatments can complement each other but in certain situations, there can be interactions. Some herbs should not be taken along with certain prescription medicines. Medical Herbalists are trained to know which herbs can be used safely in each situation and check for all known interactions."
